In this quote, Edward Lewis is comparing himself to Vivian, a sex worker. The best interpretation is that Lewis sees them both as pragmatists who are willing to use their attractiveness and sexuality to get financial benefits from others. Even though they come from different social classes, Lewis believes they share the trait of being willing to engage in intimate relationships mainly for monetary gain, rather than genuine emotional connection.
