The Dalai Lama is suggesting that in today’s world, where financial gain is prioritized over developing good character and spiritual well-being, education systems need to be reformed. He argues that to counter society’s excessive focus on wealth accumulation, schools should incorporate secular (non-religious) ethics and values like compassion, honesty and social responsibility into the curriculum.

The Dalai Lama believes cultivating strong inner principles is as important as teaching academic or job-related skills. His view is that for people to live well and societies to function optimally, education must aim not just to prepare students for high-paying careers, but also to enlighten their minds and strengthen their principles.
