Ray Kurzweil: Universal Basic Income Ideas
on Saturday, July 22, 2017Ray Kurzweil Money Quote in his ‘Letter from Ray’ blog post responded to Mark Zuckerberg Harvard commencement address in which he spoke in support of Universal Basic Income (UBI). Ray Kurzweil said:
“Adopting a universal basic income for all people can help society think creatively with new ideas, develop new industries — and free-up people to work on important future projects” — Ray Kurzweil
Ray Kurzweil is arguing that implementing a universal basic income could have significant cognitive and economic benefits for society. It could help foster more creative thinking and new ideas by giving people the means and flexibility to think imaginatively without financial constraints holding them back.
This in turn could lead to the development of new industries and economic opportunities. Additionally, with a basic income providing basic support, more people would be free or “freed up” to devote time and energy to working on important projects that could shape the future, such as scientific or technological innovations.
So in Kurzweil’s view, a universal basic income has the potential to unleash human creativity and innovation in ways that make society more progressive and prosperous.
