Fulton J. Sheen is drawing a comparison between life and a cash register. He is suggesting that in life, just as a cash register records every sale that is made, so too is every aspect of our lives – our thoughts, words, and actions – somehow “recorded” in a broader sense.

The best interpretation is that Sheen believes we will ultimately be accountable for all that we think, say and do, and that there is a permanent record of our lives, just as a cash register permanently records each financial transaction.

He seems to be implying the existence of some higher power or force that observes and takes stock of our lives from start to finish.
