This quote compares Bitcoin to gunpowder because when McAfee says that trying to stop Bitcoin is like trying to stop gunpowder. In the same way that neither could now be eliminated.
The comparison helps convey McAfee’s view that Bitcoin, like gunpowder before it, has become too explosive to be stopped from continuing to blowing up the financial system.
