Seigniorage

Seigniorage is revenue associated with money production and maintenance or put differently, profit made by a government by issuing currency, especially the difference between the face value of coins or bills and their production costs. For coins it is revenue calculated as the difference between the face value and the metal value. Recently it has been publicized that pennies cost more to make than they are worth.
