This Bible verse from Ecclesiastes cautions against the perils of hoarding wealth excessively or losing it through misfortune. It suggests that amassing riches only to have “nothing left” for one’s heirs is “a grievous evil”.

The best interpretation is that the passage encourages people to use their resources wisely and for the benefit of future generations, rather than clinging to possessions so tightly that family is left destitute upon their death.

It promotes moderation in acquiring and holding onto wealth, advising against both miserly stockpiling and careless squandering of assets that leave one’s descendants without support or inheritance.
