“The abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep. I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owner, or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when he has a son there is nothing left for him” — Ecclesiastes 5:13

This verse from Ecclesiastes suggests that excessive wealth and greed can actually be harmful. It says that being extremely rich prevents one from getting proper rest or sleep, as they are constantly worried about protecting and growing their wealth. The verse also observes how wealth is often “lost through some misfortune”, leaving nothing for one’s heirs.

Overall, the passage seems to warn that amassing too much money and possessions can be spiritually and psychologically damaging, making it difficult to truly enjoy one’s life or leave an inheritance. Moderation and being content with what one has may lead to greater peace of mind.
