Short Selling

Short Selling AKA going short or shorting: a market strategy where investors sell securities or financial instruments that aren’t owned, then repurchase them (called ‘covering’). When there is an interim price decline, a short seller profits, because the cost to re-purchase is less than the short sale proceeds received in the short sale.
