A limited pool of investors practicing high risk investing with borrowed money (known as leveraging), with a goal of realizing large capital gains. Hedge funds are intended to generate an ongoing high level of return, regardless of overall stock market performance. This is done in many cases by betting against the market using short selling, futures, and derivatives.
